Fire Protection Design Basis Process

The fire protection design basis process establishes goals, objectives and criteria for the acceptable level of fire protection at a utility’s facility or project.

This process results in a design based document (DBD), which describes the design rationale for the fire protection systems.

Elixir Engineering as done various projects related to fire protection and our subject matter expert are aware of different perspectives for developing a successful fire protection design basis document.  And we have learned from past experience on common issues in determining the fire protection features required to mitigate the exposures for the hazards and stakeholders involved.

Fire Protection is dependent on the type of facility and the requirements as different facility has its own unique requirements. For example, the facilities may be any of the below

  1. Commercial or Industrial Building
  2. Refinery or Petrochemical Complex
  3. Gas Processing facilities
  4. Compressor Stations
  5. LNG / LPG Terminal
  6. Tank Farm
  7. Depot
  8. Jetty for Loading/Unloading

Elixir experience includes fire hazards analysis, life safety, and water supply analysis.  We have extensive experience in the fire protection engineering, evaluation of existing fire alarm, sprinkler and special hazard systems.  And have been involved with the design of fire suppression and alarm systems for numerous new and existing commercial and industrial occupancies.

We also can do fire loss investigation, fire modeling, fire alarm system detailed analysis, smoke evacuation system inspection.  If the client requires, we can undertake training on fire alarm design, testing and maintenance classes, and Building and Life Safety Code applications.
